In Nevis, our age friendly activities are designed to accommodate the needs and interest of older people, promoting physical, mental and social wellbeing.

The Policies, programs, and services, implemented by the government were crucial for ensuring their well-being, quality of life, and inclusion in society. Our social security system and pension plan provides a social safety net which provides financial support to older adults after retirement at age 62. These programs aim to ensure economic security and prevent poverty among seniors. There is free and affordable access to healthcare services which is essential for older people. Governments provide healthcare programs specifically tailored to the needs of older people. These include free dental checks, regular check-ups and screenings at the health centres, and eye care, free medicine and assistive devices, such as mobility aids.

Efforts are been made also in creating age-friendly environments that accommodate the needs of older people which is important for promoting independence and mobility. This includes accessible public spaces, transportation options, and inclusion of ADA access (rails, ramps etc) in our building codes. Another major program that encourages social participation and community engagement among older people is the Social Services Seniors Program. This program helps prevent social isolation and loneliness. The senior groups are involved in monthly recreational activities which may include physical activities, skills training and capacity building (eg. Sport, Steel pan and use of technology). The program also provide services such as home care, utility bill payment, bus pass, hot meals and food vouchers. The department shows recognition and appreciation for the contribution of older adults within our communities and organizes intergenerational activities that promote connection and well-being.

The business community also plays a crucial role in supporting older people through various products, services, and initiatives such as offering seniors discounts or establishing priority lines for older persons.
